Is Your Child Struggling with Sleep?

Here’s What Parents Need to Know

If your child snores, grinds their teeth, wakes up tired, wets the bed, or seems hyper or distracted during the day, it could be a sign of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) or even pediatric sleep apnea. The good news? These issues can often be corrected in childhood, unlike in adults who usually need CPAP machines or surgery to manage them.

1. Tonsils and Adenoids

Large tonsils or adenoids can block your child’s airway during sleep. We can help assess this and refer you to an ENT specialist if removal might help improve their breathing.

2. Palate Expansion

Many kids with sleep issues have narrow jaws or small mouths. Using a gentle expander can open the airway by creating more space in the nose and mouth — which helps with breathing and sets the stage for straighter teeth and better jaw growth.

3. Invisalign First (Early Orthodontics)

Even if your child’s teeth look straight, they may need space for their adult teeth. Early Invisalign can create that space, straighten teeth, and even help move the lower jaw forward to support their airway.

4. Myofunctional Therapy & Habit Appliances

Many kids breathe through their mouths instead of their noses, especially during sleep. This can cause snoring, dry mouth, poor sleep, and symptoms like ADHD or bedwetting.

We work with Harmony Myofunctional Therapy, who teaches kids to keep their lips closed, breathe through their noses, and place their tongues correctly — all while strengthening facial muscles. They also check for tongue or lip ties and may use a gentle nighttime appliance to reinforce healthy habits.

5. Vitamin D & B

These vitamins play a big role in sleep and brain health. Ask your family doctor to test your child’s vitamin D and B levels. We recommend Vitamin D3, a B-50 complex, and a good multivitamin with B12 and pantothenic acid (B5). It can take 6 months to see results, but it’s worth it!

6. Sleep Studies

If you're worried about your child’s sleep, talk to your doctor. We can provide a detailed report to help support a referral. Some doctors may recommend a sleep lab, but at-home sleep studies are often a helpful and less stressful first step.

We’re a family-run practice, and we know how important your child’s health is — because we’re parents too. We’re here to support and advocate for you in every way we can.

We also offer complimentary consultations, so if you have concerns about your child’s breathing, sleep, or development, we’d love to help.
